Tasting notes
Fruity nose, great mouthfeel, Sauvignon Blanc character from late Nelson Sauvin. Less bitter than Golden Weka or Smashatron — lighter overall hop load.
About This Beer
A variation on Matt’s Rice Ale, swapping flaked rice for flaked maize and Pomona for BRY-97.
Light Lager Malt as the base, clean and thin, with flaked maize adding a creamy smoothness and subtle grain sweetness, and Vienna rounding out the body.
Krush handles the hot side, bittering and a late-boil aroma charge. Nelson Sauvin takes over from the whirlpool onward, in a 20 minute stand below 80°C and again as a day-4 dry hop.
Fermentation
18.5°C, raised to 22°C until day 11, then down to 8°C. Bottled 31 July 2025.
How it turned out
Fruity nose, soft mouthfeel from the maize, and a clear Sauvignon Blanc quality from the late Nelson Sauvin.
Less assertive bitterness than the Golden Weka or Smashatron batches, since the lower total hop load keeps it sessionable.
