About This Beer
A single-hop study built around Strata from Indie Hops, an Oregon-bred variety known for a dank, passionfruit and cannabis-forward character. Running it solo is the clearest way to map what the hop actually contributes.
The grist was designed to stay out of the way: American Ale as a clean fermentable base, Munich for roundness and malt depth without crystal sweetness, and a small charge of Supernova for biscuity complexity.
Strata all the way through, across boil, whirlpool and a heavy day-3 dry hop. The dry hop rate was deliberately high, to push the dank tropical aromatics to the front.
Fermentation
Pomona pitched at 18°C. Dry hop triggered on gravity at day 3, using active fermentation to biotransform the hop compounds. Raised to 20.5°C then 22°C for cleanup, then crashed to 3°C ahead of transfer.
Packaging and tasting
Kegged 12 days after brew day, carbonated to 2.4 volumes.
Tasted at kegging: decent aroma and a clean, West Coast leaning profile, with Strata’s dank and passionfruit character coming through clearly. A useful data point on how this hop behaves on its own.
