About This Beer

Second brew of Fusion Haze from August. Robin’s eighth batch. Same grist, water and Pomona.

Tropical Fusion mixed at home this time: 40 g Riwaka, 20 g Motueka and 20 g Nelson Sauvin, 80 g into the whirlpool where the Freestyle blend went last time. Mosaic in the dry hop is 50 g of T-90 pellets.

Brew day

Brooklyn, Wellington, Thursday 1 October 2026. Mashed in at 4:38pm, grain bed stirred at the half hour, out by 5:54pm.

Boil from 6:25pm to 8:00pm, ninety minutes with the Columbus in from the start. Whirlfloc and nutrient at quarter to eight. Whirlpool at 75°C from 8:10pm for half an hour, then chilled.

23.5 litres into the fermenter at 1.058, the same OG as August. Two packets of Pomona dry pitched at 18°C, with 10 g of Krush in alongside.

Fermentation

Mosaic, Nectaron and Citra in together 48 hours after pitch, into active fermentation, the same day 2 as August. Thirteen days on the hops before bottling, four more than last time.

Finished at 1.010, the same FG as August, for 6.3% and 82.8% apparent attenuation.

Packaging

Bottled Friday evening, 16 October, fifteen days after brew day. 20.5 litres into 750 ml swing tops, two carbonation drops in each.

Tasting

Sampled at bottling, flat. Good and clean. The worry was that the long time on the hops would turn them grassy, but as far as can be told before carbonation it came out well.

Proper notes once it has had time in the bottle.
