Tasting notes
Variation on original Panhead clone. Vienna malt and Nelson hops (Nectaron, Kohatu, Superdelic) replace Munich and American hops. Hop-forward, tropical NZ character.
About This Beer
Owen’s second take on a Panhead APA clone kit, originally bought from Home Brew West in Henderson.
Two changes for version 2: Vienna in place of Munich, and a complete switch from American hops to Nelson varieties, with Nectaron, Kohatu and Superdelic each at 100 g total.
The schedule puts the emphasis firmly on late additions. Only a small Nectaron charge goes in at 60 minutes; everything else is split across the 30 minute boil, an 80°C whirlpool and a day-5 dry hop.
Fermentation
Safale US-05 at 19.5°C for five days, then ramped to 22°C after dry hopping, before gradual cooling to 5°C over the final week.
